We remove invasive species, organize volunteers, plant natives, and document what is left of Long Island’s rare plant communities. We help public land, parks and preserves have that extra maintenance or appreciation that it deserves.
Multiflora rose, mugwort, garlic mustard, Japanese honeysuckle. These plants form dense thickets that shade out everything native and offer little to local wildlife. We cut, pull, and treat them, then replant with milkweed, beach plum, butterfly weed, and swamp rose. Volunteer days are open to anyone. No experience needed.
Veterans Nature Study Area in East Northport is a beautiful nature preserve where LI Habitat Helpers are removing invasive plants. and also installing a native butterfly garden.
