Veterans Nature Study Area

East Northport's beautiful nature preserve is getting a second chance. LI Habitat Helpers are on the ground removing invasive plants and restoring the land to a thriving native habitat — including a brand-new butterfly garden.

Removing Invasive Plants

Invasive species crowd out the native plants that local wildlife depend on for food and shelter. Our volunteers work methodically through Vets Park, hand-pulling and carefully treating invasive plants to give native species the space they need to thrive. Every cleared patch is a win for the whole ecosystem.

A Native Butterfly Garden

Alongside the removal work, we are designing and installing a native butterfly garden at Vets Park. Native flowering plants support the full life cycle of local butterfly and moth species — providing nectar for adults and host plants for caterpillars. This garden will be a beautiful, living classroom for the community.
